Two Israeli counselors to work as specialists in its summer camp, Camp By The Sea.

The Milton & Betty Katz Jewish Community Center is excited to welcome two Israeli counselors to work as specialists in its summer camp, Camp By The Sea. Throughout June, July and August these Shlichim/Counselors teach children and teens in the Atlantic County community about the history and culture of Israel through stories, games, songs, dance and crafts.

Sharon Kiriti will serve as the Israeli music & dance specialist at Camp By The Sea.  She grew up in Rehovot, Israel – a city in between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.  Sharon served in the Artillery Corps of the IDF where she acted as a social worker, taking care of other soldiers conditions and wellbeing.  She finished her army service in 2012 and is currently enrolled in the Levinsky College of Education where she is pursuing a degree in Music Education.

Sharon explains “I want the children to learn not only music and dance –  but different values such as living without prejudice, having an open mind and accepting the differences in others. Through my camp program, campers will experience Israeli culture, and the personal Israeli characteristics in me which is- warmth, giving, and love”.

Yasmin Shamir will lead an Israel Culture Program this summer at Camp By The Sea.  She was born and raised in Eilat and currently resides in Tel Aviv.   In 2010 Yasmin was recruited into the Israeli Air Force as an assistant in the operational at Palmachim Air Force Base.  Two years later, Yasmin graduated the Officers Academy and was placed as the Operations Officer at Ramon Air Force Base.  She proved her dedication and abilities well and was later promoted to a Training Officer in the Israel Air Force.

Yasmin adds “ I would like to teach the campers about the Israeli lifestyle and culture. Also, i want to teach the kids Jewish values and how to set a good example in everyday situations.”

The JCC is looking for families to host one of these shlichim for two to three week intervals. Hosting is an amazing opportunity to bond and create life-long friendships with these dynamic individuals and grow closer to Israel.
