Garden State Film Festival Event at the JCC

Cost: Members $10 / Non-Members $12

February’s event will be screening (4) short films, overall running time is 92 minutes. The (4) films include:

  • Admissions: Admissions is a short film starring Academy Award nominee James Cromwell that tells a transformation tale about what it takes to find lasting peace, even in war-torn places like the Middle East. Featuring an Israeli couple and a Palestinian man, this modern parable is set in the Admission Room for the afterlife. Its purpose is to starts a conversation that heals. (21 minutes)
  • A Note of Triumph: The Golden Age of Norman Corwin: Norman Corwin, radio’s “poet laureate,” made an indelible impact on American culture with his broadcast of ON A NOTE OF TRIUMPH on V-E Day, May 8, 1945. This film is an examination of the greatest radio presentation in the history of the medium and how it remains eerily prescient in light of today’s current events. (40 minutes)
  • Miyuki’s Wind Bells: Against her will, Miyuki must leave Tokyo and take her two young half-brothers to the country home of their quirky grandmother, but when they arrive she will discover that she had to leave her home in order to find it. (20 minutes)
  • The Kiddush Man: Ten-year-old Yoni can’t sit still during synagogue. He slips out to play week after week but his fun is thwarted by Mr. Katz, the man who prepares the Kiddush reception after services. One week Mr. Katz is nowhere to be seen…… (11 minutes)

AARP: Driver Safety Classes

Cost

$15 for AARP Members
$20 for Non-Members

AARP Drivers Safety Course is the nation’s first and largest classroom refresher for all motorists. Participants learn how to drive defensively and avoid driving hazards. Auto insurance discounts and point deductions are available with completion of this one-day class. The class runs from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM with a one hour break for lunch, which is not included in the price of the course. Make checks payable to AARP. Advance registration required and spaces are limited to the first 25 paid registrants. This class is not valid for drivers with a Florida or New York license.

JCC & American Red Cross Blood Drive

Auditorium from  12:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Help the JCC and the American Red Cross maintain a five to ten day community blood bank by giving blood on Monday, February 23 in the auditorium.

It only takes a small amount of time and one small pinch to become a hero to someone in need. Giving the “Gift of Life” is a mitzvah and one way to help those in need. To set up a time to donate, please call Josh Cutler at Ext. 138 or e-mail at jcutler@jccatlantic.org.

Dinner & Movie events include a full course meal consisting of salad, soup, entrée and dessert. Dinner begins at 5:00 PM and is followed by an entertaining movie on the big screen. Dietary laws are observed. Reservations should be made at least one week in advance and paid for either in person or by phone with a credit card.

This winter, the Katz JCC will host another fantastic Falafel & Film program –consisting of an evening of food, fun and new Israeli films to celebrate the variety and ‘spice’ seen in today’s Israeli culture and cinema. Attendees will enjoy a delicious kosher falafel meal complete with humus, tahini and Israel salad followed by several short films from Jerusalem’s Ma’aleh Film School highlighting current events and issues in modern day Israel.

Kids Fitness & Sports Festival

The Katz JCC has decided to join the fight of childhood obesity and host a Kids Sports & Fitness Festival on Sunday, March 15, 2015.

The 2015 Katz JCC Kids Sports & Fitness Festival has the formula for success making it the premiere event in South Jersey dedicated to kids sports and fitness. The event‘s focus is on a lifestyle, health, wellness and activity in children from infants to teens and will reach the entire South Jersey area from Cape May to Red Bank. It will feature sports clinics for baseball, soccer, martial arts, yoga, dance, football and more; vendors providing information and products from sporting goods to fitness equipment; health and wellness screenings for children; appearances from local, regional and national sports organizations; and other special fun-filled fitness activities.

Tickets for the event are $4 per person.
