JCC Project Gesher

Now Recruiting Ninth Graders For Class Two

Current 9th graders in our community are eligible for an amazing ‘International Teen Leadership Program’.  Seven selected teens from our Atlantic County community will embark on a two year mentorship program that will take place across NJ, Israel and Europe from December 2013 to December 2015.

This program, JCC Project Gesher, is a unique, life-changing program that connects 28 teens from New Jersey and 28 from our Partnership Communities of Arad/ Ofakim/ Merchavim in Israel through social media, skype sessions, leadership workshops and community service and more.

Project Gesher’s commitment will include six yearly meetings/Shabbatones  and will culminate with two 10 day trips – During December 2014 the group of 28 teens from Israel will spend time in our communities – learning about American Jewry and culture.   They will tour New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia – as our local NJ teens assume the role of educators and tour guides.

Our NJ teens will continue their connection to Israel (and these 28 Israel teens) when we visit Israel during winter break, December 2015.  We will spend quality  time with our Israeli chaverim (friends) in our host communities as well as visit the best of Israel  including Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, the Negev, Dead Sea, Masada and more!

Plus – on the return from Israel, this group of ‘young NJ leaders’ will spend time in a selected European city to learn and experience Jewish life, history and culture there as well.

Again, our Atlantic County community has been allotted seven spots for this program.  To enroll in Project Gesher, a completed application, an essay and letter of recommendation must be received by November 15, 2013.  Applicants will be contacted in mid-November to set up an interview with a selected Project Gesher committee.
