LIFE IN THE IDF & THE PRICE OF PEACE
Tuesday, June 17
Featuring Jasmin Shamir and Sharon Kariti, both women have recently finished their army service in Israel and moved to Margate to work at the Katz JCC this summer. They will speak about life in the IDF (Israel Defense Force) and their first impressions of America. Afterwards we will watch the film, The Price of Peace, a documentary about the interplay between the official government channels and the men whose discreet actions led to the peace process between Egypt and Israel. Tracing the confluence of factors that led to the historic Camp David Accords, the film examines not only the powerful personalities-Begin, Sadat, Carter -that drove the peace process, but also the secret encounters, communications, and third-party world leaders who played important yet seldom understood roles in forging the peace agreement that has become the cornerstone of stability in the Middle East
