Active adult programs FREE to Atlantic County residents

senior-programing-1

The month of November marks the kick off of four new sessions of active adult programs at the J.  Active adult classes are geared towards county residents ages 60 and above and open to BOTH members of the Milton & Betty Katz JCC and guests for FREE!

Active adult programs include Computer Classes, Live Long Live Strong, Water Wellness and Learn, Move, Create.  These classes meet on a weekly basis here at the J and at other locations in Atlantic County.

senior-programing-2Learn, Move, Create

Designed to improve overall quality of life for Atlantic County residents, Learn Move Create is an exercise and education series for mature adults.  Featuring five different class options, the program combines accessible approaches to exercise, meditation classes with techniques, as well as hands-on creative arts and writing workshops. Offering a fully integrated approach to improving health, as well as mental and emotional wellbeing, Learn Move Create classes are held at different locations within Atlantic County making them easily accessible and convenient to residents.

The Learn Move Create program is completely free and open to Atlantic County residents ages 60 plus.

To register or for more information, contact Kelly Rosenberg, Adult Program Coordinator at 609-822-1167 Ext. 144, or email her at krosenberg@jccatlantic.org.

senior-programing-3Live Long Live Strong

Members who join Live Long Live Strong are asked to attend two sessions per week for twelve consecutive weeks.

This program is FREE and open to Atlantic County residents ages 58 to 75 years of age.

While physical fitness is important to everyone as you age, regular exercise becomes more important for your body and mind. The comprehensive wellness program funded by the Atlantic County Division of Intergenerational Services “Live Long Live Strong” offers residents of Atlantic County the opportunity to do just that. Throughout the program, participants explore a variety of exercises and lectures that provide the building blocks for healthy living.

For additional information about the class schedule or curriculum, please contact Antoinette Wood, Health and Wellness Director at
609-822-1167 Ext. 116 or email awood@jccatlantic.org.

Computer Classes

The Milton & Betty Katz JCC will offer a free eight-week course of computer classes to active adults (age 60+).

The course objective is to build computer confidence for new users and enhance the skills of more experienced users.  The program is designed for the specific needs of active adults to increase usability of computers, smart phones and tablets in the ever-changing world of technology.  Course recipients will better understand the operation of electronic devices, internet usage, communication methods and social media (Facebook, Google, Twitter, and more).

Space is limited so be sure to register today.  These classes are free and open to the community.  For questions or to register, contact John Voigt at 609-822-1167 ext. 123.

Water Wellness

This 60 minute class is offered several times throughout the week and perfect for the beginner to intermediate. Also free to Atlantic County residents ages 60 and above, the class is ideal for those with risk factors and/or injuries that prevent them from participation in other high-impact fitness classes. The focus is on moderate fluid movements that incorporate ROM (Range-of-Motion) exercises, resistance and flexibility while paying special attention to those at risk. This class is offered in the shallow end, which is great for beginners and those who struggle with typical day to day range of motion movements.

The Active Adult programs are partially funded under the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended, through a grant by the Division of Intergenerational Services. Donations to the program are welcome, and will be used to enhance and expand existing services.
